Need some career coaching? We're here to help! Welcome to our latest Smart Room!
It's the time of year that "everyone" says nobody is hiring. Funny, how does "everyone" know? Hasn't it been this way all year?
So, a colleague of mine sent me this link today
http://www.idealist.org/en/job/360165-215
I immediately posted it to my Facebook status update given I have 1500+ people following me on FB. My thinking was, "Someone will be interested." Within seconds a former student intern of mine in Miami but from Argentina wrote exclaiming "Oh, baby that's a great job." Next, a young lady in LA but who's family mother is Kenya and a former student reporter for me as well chimed in, "OMG, this job looks amazing."
If you are a print reporter you might want to check out this site
Also, I'm being followed now on Twitter by "TheJobsGuy."
Was "reading in" this morning and found a very interesting article from a blogger I've been following for 10 years.
During my chat yesterday it occurred to me that I should talk about some of the things I have done in my career as well. If you review my profile on Linkedin.com, you'll find that I have done and, most importantly, continue to do a lot of things.
I'll post this here at in the Audio section.
I was "reading in" this morning and found this on one of the listservs I subscribe to where the question was asked that I put in the title:
Wow, two in one day. I've been reading a lot...
Saw this tweet today:
http://www.brazencareerist.com/2009/11/03/changing-the-way-teachers-teac...
Yes, it's about teachers and teaching. But, I stretched it to the term "mentoring." How? Well, for one thing, I do that I stretch the meaning of stuff.
Saw this today on a blog called "journalisticks.com"

I shook my head. Apparently this is not unprecedented. All the effort and expense of a re-design and re-launch, only to elminate nearly everyone.
Makes it hard for Career Coaches ya know? It's easy to chalk it up to the new revenue models today and how anything printed is in trouble. I wonder how the book industry is doing?
With the exception of 18 months as a commercial radio reporter, I've spent my entire career working in the non-profit sector. 21.5 years at NPR and now as a Senior Project Manger for an environmental public radio program called, "Living On Earth." I do a lot of things without even thinking about making a profit. That does not mean I don't get paid and paid well. My motivations are first and foremost to "give back" and be an example to others who could benefit from what I have learned.
